Therapeutic Boarding School for Girls
While Looking for Therapeutic Boarding Schools, Please Consider Kansas City Girls Academy, a Therapeutic Boarding School that Exclusively Enrolls Girls Who are Struggling with Academics, Emotions, or Bad Behavior.
Counter to therapeutic boarding schools, KCGA Is Uniquely Equipped to work with struggling teens who are spiraling out of control or showing lack of motivation, rage, self-harm, dropping grades, or discord with family and others. As a nonprofit therapeutic boarding school, KCGA is less expensive than other therapeutic boarding schools.
While chiefly a therapeutic boarding school, KCGA is also a Christian boarding school that excels academically, with fully equipped classrooms and qualified teachers on campus every day. Credits are transferable back to the child’s home school and diplomas are awarded to teens who graduate while they are still in KCGA. Their dedication to helping girls grow behaviorally, spiritually, and in character is matched by their history of providing troubled girls with a quality education.
Emotionally or Behaviorally KCGA Welcomes Teens from All Across America
Teen girls come to Kansas City Girls Academy from around the country, including from your state. Most KCGA students are from homes hours away from the campus. We find it beneficial for teens to grow in a new environment well away from their friends.
KCGA is a boarding school that provides a dynamic team of dedicated individuals who provide them with an atmosphere of love when they are at their worst. Teens who are in our care participate in individual and group counseling and spiritual guidance. Teens progress through five measures of growth until they gain a new mind-set and are ready to return to regular life at home. Beyond structured sessions, therapy occurs as teens work with our team of Christian mentors and staff during class time, recreation, meals, and even chores. Our staff live with the teens in the dorms and humbly share their lives out of a wish to greatly impact the teens.
KCGA Residents Learn to Serve Others As Well
Another major gauge of growth is a desire to serve and share with others. KCGA strongly emphasizes community involvement and giving through serving. KCGA teens serve one another, serve the community and learn to serve the world. Service takes place on campus; through field trips to soup kitchens, churches, and parks; and in missions experiences such as teaching orphaned children in 3rd world countries. Nurturing entitled teens means instructing them how to serve others, and we endeavor to lead in this by our own example. Their volunteer work is completely charitable and unpaid.
Individual Therapy – is provided to each student with a minimum of one session every other week. Sessions help students gain insights into their individual behaviors and establishes a trusting relationship with their counselor. In this setting, students process issues too sensitive for them to share with a group.
Family Therapy – Parents contribute to treatment as an integral part of the program. KCGA Girl Academy encourages families to visit during planned family weekends. Family and students meet with their primary counselor for therapy. Parents and children also participate in parent support groups, parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and graduation ceremonies.
Equine Therapy – Equine therapy is about creating and cultivating a bond between the girl and a horse, not just having fun horseback riding. At its root, horsemanship is all about the girl and horse working together to complete a goal or task. To accomplish this, each girl must learn to be calm, assertive, and communicative. The girl must communicate clearly with her equine partner, using both verbal and nonverbal communication techniques.
The way horses read and react to the girl’s body language is a startlingly accurate method of daily feedback for the girl; if her attitude is not right, the horse will not respond well to her. Only calm assertive communication from the girl will result in the horse beginning to trust and respect her leadership.
So, please consider a KCGA. Though it may be further away than other therapeutic boarding schools, it is worth it.
